Fixated on a pattern

That's what I call it. One of the lovely Estonian lace stitches, probably in my top 3 fave, as it's not that complicated so I can work it without constantly checking the chart. And when I like something, I repeat it. This time, three times. First, in kidsilk (love the yarn!)

This makes a great wedding shawl. And for those who'd prefer a less luxurious version I made two more in a blend of mohair and polyamide.

There is one more bridal shawl I'd like to show you. Also kidsilk, also Estonian lace pattern. I'm sorry about the quality of the photos, but I was working on a tight schedule and had to ship it off asap, so I couldn't wait for a better light. Excuse the flash and slightly distorted color (it's the same off-white as in the first shawl above).

I liked the result so much that I listed it in the "made to order" section in my shop. It's possible to order it in other colors, if you're interested.

On to the latest additions: a lesson in patience, one of my favourite Estonian lace patterns. And some fine Italian merino wool.

Very soft, very delicate, easy to drape. And the color is just gorgeous: antique rose, very flattering. A truly luxurious shawl:) Plus, it's great to wear, I have one in dark grey and it's definitely my favorite stole for official occasions, but I also wear it as a scarf with a more casual outfit.

As for current projects: well, I've just started another luxurious shawl, in a great lacy pattern with nupps. With yarn ever finer than the antique rose one. So it will definitely take some time to finish. Guess I'm enjoying practicing patience:)

A quarterly?

Can a blog become a quarterly? Apparently, yes. I just logged in and went into a slight shock - over three months since the last update? How is that even possible? I've made so many nice things then, so how come I forgot to show them here?

Czy blog może stać się kwartalnikiem? Najwidoczniej. Zalogowałam się i lekko zdziwiłam, że nie pisałam ponad trzy miesiące. Jak to możliwe? Przecież w międzyczasie zrobiłam tyle fajnych rzeczy? Czemu ich od razu nie pokazałam?

(Actually, I shouldn't pretend to be surprised. After all I am the laziest person I know;))

(Właściwie nie ma co udawać zdziwienia. W końcu jestem najbardziej leniwą osobą jaką znam;))

Anyway, here we go. Starting with the most recent thing. I'm playing with shapes. This "fiver" (as it's composed of five segments) is trying to be a semicircle. And it's doing pretty well. It's a typical winter wear - a shawl, wrap or scarf (I can't decide on one), 150x57 cm, no lace, 25% mohair. Nice, warm and cozy

 No dobrze, to lecimy. Zaczynając od najnowszej rzeczy. Bawię się formą. Ten "piątak" (bo zbudowany jest z pięciu segmentów) próbuje udawać półkole. I całkiem nieźle mu to wychodzi. To typowo zimowe coś - szal, chusta, otulacz (nie mogę się zdecydować jak go jednoznacznie określić), 150x57 cm, żadnych ażurów, 25% moheru. Przyjemny, ciepły, przytulaśny.

Another fiver is a bit different. This is in plain color, so I went for a twist with beads and ruffle. Came out quite nice, I think.

Drugi piątak jest nieco inny. Tym razem z jednobarwnej włóczki, więc "doprawiłam" go koralikami i falbanką. Myślę, że wyszło całkiem fajnie.

Number 3 is totally different. Safety first, so let's go crazy with some high-visibility color. Great thing for winter, especially if you spend it in snow:) And it's long (2.5 m) so there's plenty to wrap.

Numer 3 to coś zupełnie innego. Żarówiasta zieleń, żeby było ją dobrze widać na śniegu. 2,5 metra, więc jest się czym owinąć.

Opening winter weddings season

I like simple forms with a tiny twist. This time it's the ruffle and the yarn. White with a metallic yarn that makes it sparkle in the light. Not a triangle, almost a semi-circle (almost, as it's rather five triangles put together).

Lubię proste formy z odrobiną czegoś specjalnego. Tym razem specjalna jest falbanka i błyszcząca nitka, która sprawia, że chusta delikatnie migocze w świetle. Nie jest to trójkąt, ale coś bliżej półkola (a dokładnie "sklejone" pięć trójkątów.

Both shawls were knitted from a blend of kid mohair (62%) and polyamide (38%). They're very light and have a delicate halo effect.

Time for an update: part1 - for a bride

I have been so busy this past month that I completely failed to update this blog. Well, let me start making up for this now. After all this is the knitting and the knitwear season. First let me show you something I've made for brides.

Ostatni miesiąc upłynął mi na intensywnej pracy, więc blog poszedł niestety w odstawkę. Krótkotrwałą, na szczęście. Dziś zaczynam nadrabiać tutejsze zaległości. Na początek coś dla panien młodych.

This is something I designed myself, inspired by gorgeous and delicate Estonian lace. It's 100% Italian merino yarn, very nice and soft. The shawl is triangular and big - 205x105cm (ca.81x41").

Ta chusta to mój własny projekt, zainspirowany pięknymi, tradycyjnymi wzorami koronek estońskich. Zrobiona z włoskiej wełny merino, bardzo przyjemna i delikatna. I duża - ponad dwa metry na metr.

This next stole is something extra special. I've knitted it from a very fine yarn, superthin blend of cashmere, silk and merino wool. It's light and delicate like a cobweb (it weighs only 35 g!). This time it's a traditional Estonian lace stitch.

Kolejny szal to coś bardzo specjalnego. Zrobiłam go z supercienkiej mieszanki jedwabiu, kaszmiru i merino (supercienkiej, bo 100 g to 2,6 km nici:)) Jest lekki i delikatny jak pajęczyna, waży zaledwie 3,5 dkg. Wzór - estoński.

And finally something old - I've been using this pattern for quite a long time, and I think it's the most popular model in my shop. It looks great in all colors, but there is something very special about this off-white model. It's made from kidsilk - 25% silk and 75% kid mohair, it's very soft and warm.

Return of the Queen

Well, it's fall again, so the Queen is back. The Queen of the Forest, to be more specific. This time it's apple green and cherry red (I sense a fruit theme here;)) Both knitted with kidsilk, although from different producers. The green one is 25% silk, 75% kid mohair, the red one is 30% silk, 70% mohair. The first one is listed on Etsy, the second was made to order and is about to be shipped off.

Dzisiaj będzie jesiennie i owocowo: zielone jabłuszko i wiśniowa czerwień;) Dwa nowe szale wg wzoru The Queen of the Forest. Oba wydziergane z kidsilków, ale od różnych producentów. Zielony to 25% jedwabiu i 75% moheru, czerwony ma proporcje 30-70. Pierwszy trafił do Etsy, drugi już ma właścicielkę.

I probably shouldn't be saying this, because this is my design, but I love this model.and I love combining it with kidsilks. It's big, cozy, soft, light (it's under 75 grams, and about 200x90 cm!). Pewnie nie powinnam tego mówić, bo to mój własny projekt, ale uwielbiam ten model! Zwłaszcza w połączeniu z kidsilkiem. Chusta jest duża, miękka, lekka (waży mniej niż 75 g. a mierzy ok. 200x90 cm!). Mogę takie robić cały czas, więc jeśli ktoś ma ochotę, zapraszam do zamawiania. A jeśli ktoś ma ochotę na własny udzierg, to wzór jest dostępny na Raverly i Craftsy (linki niżej).

Stuck on a pattern

Boy, when I like a pattern, I can't stop using it. This time it all started with a beautiful Echo Flower Shawl by Jenny Johnson Johnen. I was planning to make it for myself, but halfway through I realized, that the yarn I got wasn't exactly the one I ordered (easy to make a mistake, when you order milk and get white). And I knew I wouldn't be wearing it, as I have absolutely no use for a white shawl. But I finished it anyway and listed it in the shop.

Rety, jak tylko spodoba mi się jakiś wzór, to nie mogę się od niego oderwać. Tym razem zaczęło się od uroczego Echo Flower Shawl autorstwa Jenny Johnson Johnen. Zamierzałam zrobić tę chustę dla siebie, ale tak gdzieś w połowie robótki zauważyłam, że kolor, który mam na drutach to nie ten kolor, który zamówiłam (miał być mleczny, był biały). No i wiedziałam, że sobie w tym nie pochodzę, bo do niczego mi nie pasuje. Ale chustę skończyłam i ostatecznie trafiła do sklepu.

The same motif is used in another beautiful shawl - Laminaria by Elizabeth Freeman. And since it's something I'd wanted to knit for a long time, I cast on some deep blue yarn and started. And this one is mine! I'm not giving it to anyone:) Oh, and I modified the pattern a bit - I skipped the first part of the shawl (the swatch chart).

Ten sam motyw został wykorzystany w innym fantastycznym wzorze o nazwie Laminaria autorstwa Elizabeth Freeman. A ponieważ jest to wzór, na który od dawna miałam chrapkę, użyłam go do wydziergania cieniutkiej chusty z granatowego merino. I ta chusta jest moja, nikomu jej nie oddam:) A wzór jest nieco zmodyfikowany - odpuściłam sobie początek (the swatch chart).

Shawl number three is another one that uses the same main motif, but I improvised the border. This one is quite impressive - it's big (200x110cm /ca.79x43"), knitted from a blend of merino and silk (75/25), very soft and delicate. A perfect one for a bride, but not only. It's easy to drape and can be worn in many different ways.

Chusta numer trzy jest kolejną z tym samym motywem, ale tym razem border wymyśliłam sama. To bardzo udana chusta - jest duża (200x110cm), zrobiona z mieszanki wełny merino z jedwabiem (75/25), bardzo miękka i delikatna. Świetny dodatek dla panny młodej, ale nie tylko. Układa się doskonale i można ją nosić na wiele sposobów.

Pokażę Wam dzisiaj co wyszło z eksperymentowania z nową włóczką i koralikami.

Experiment 1 - cobweb yarn / pajęczyna

A long time ago I found a beautiful yarn in one of my favorite stores. It was a gorgeous blend of cashmere, silk and merino wool. But it was incredibly thin, 2600 meters (that's over 2000 yards) per 100 g - that probably means the yarn is thinner than the one you use to sew on your buttons. And definitely more delicate. I kept looking at it for a while, after all a yarn that thin is a bit scary. But in the end I gave in and bought one skein for a bridal shawl.

Dawno temu wypatrzyłam w jednym z moich ulubionych sklepów przepiękną włóczkę - delikatną mieszankę kaszmiru, jedwabiu i wełny merino. Piękną, ale niesamowicie cienką - 2600 m/100g. Mam grubsze nici do szycia. Najpierw nie mogłam się zdecydować, bo taka cienizna jednak trochę przeraża. Ale w końcu uległam i kupiłam motek z myślą o jakimś delikatnym szalu dla przyszłej panny młodej.

I absolutely love this yarn. Yes, it's thin, and delicate, and knitting takes a long time, but the result is amazing. This is a true cobweb shawl. It weighs less than one ounce (I used less than 1/3 of the skein), you almost don't feel it on the skin. And it's soft, delicate and so easy to drape.

Zakochałam się w tej włóczce. Owszem, jest cieniutka i delikatna, a sama robótka pochłonęła sporo czasu, ale efekt jest fantastyczny. To jest prawdziwa pajęczynka. Całość ma 220x107 cm i waży zaledwie 28 g! Tej chusty prawie nie czuć na skórze. A do tego jest miękka, delikatna i bardzo łatwo ją ładnie ułożyć.

Eksperyment 2 - koraliki / beads

Na koraliki miałam ochotę od dawna, ale trochę brakowało mi konkretnego pomysłu. A potem przypomniał mi się ten szal. Zrobiłam go wzorem estońskim z bąbelkami. A teraz wymyśliłam sobie, że wykorzystam ten wzór, ale zamiast bąbelków wplotę koraliki.

I wanted to knit something with beads for a long time, but I couldn't quite figure out what and how. And then I remembered this shawl. I'd knitted it in an Estonian lace stitch pattern with nupps. And now I decided to use it again, only this time replacing the nupps with beads.

I wyszło tak:

Podoba mi się co koraliki robią z szalem: nieco go obciążają, przez co fajniej przylega do sylwetki, a do tego błyszczą w słońcu, dzięki czemu szal migocze. Całość jakby w sam raz na romantyczne spacery przy zachodzie słońca:)

I like what the beads do to the shawl: they make it a little bit heavier, so it drapes closer to the body, and they shine in the sun, making the shawl shimmer a bit. The whole thing is perfect for romantic walks at sunset:)
